Back to School – A College Student’s Roadside Guide
As summer comes to a close and college students head back to campus, it’s a time filled with excitement and new experiences. However, being on your own for the first time can also bring new challenges, especially when it comes to road safety. At Dugger’s Road Rescue, we understand how crucial it is to be prepared for any roadside emergency. Whether you’re traveling across town or across states, here are some essential tips to ensure you’re ready for the road ahead.
1. Be Prepared for Common Emergencies
Flat Tires: A flat tire can happen anytime, anywhere. Make sure you know how to change a tire or have our number saved in your phone. Always carry a spare tire, a jack, and a lug wrench in your trunk.
Dead Battery: Batteries tend to die at the most inconvenient times. Keep jumper cables in your car or invest in a portable battery jump starter. If you need a battery replacement, we can deliver and install a new one for you on the spot.
Locked Keys: It happens to the best of us – locking keys inside the car. Have a plan B. Maybe leave a spare key with a trustworthy friend or family member. Remember, Dugger’s Road Rescue can unlock your vehicle and get you back on track quickly.
Emergency Fuel Delivery: Running out of gas is frustrating and potentially dangerous. Always keep an eye on your fuel gauge and fill up before long trips. If you do find yourself stranded, we offer emergency fuel delivery to get you to the nearest gas station safely.
2. Equip Your Car with an Emergency Kit
An emergency kit is a lifesaver in roadside emergencies. Here’s what every college student should have:
- Safety Triangle and Light Flasher/Flares: These will alert other drivers if you’re pulled over on the side of the road.
- Fuel Can: Handy if you need to walk to a gas station.
- Reflective Safety Vest: Increases your visibility, especially at night.
- Water: Essential for hydration if you’re waiting for help in hot weather.
- First Aid Kit: For minor injuries.
3. Stay Safe on the Road
Off-Road Safety: If you experience a breakdown, try to move your vehicle off the road to as level a surface as possible. Turn on your hazard lights immediately to alert other drivers.
Stay Inside: If it’s safer to stay inside your vehicle, keep your seatbelt on and wait for professional help.
Communication: Always let someone know your travel plans and expected arrival time. Keep your phone charged and have our contact information handy.
At Dugger’s Road Rescue, we’re committed to ensuring that college students and their families feel safe and supported. As you embark on this new chapter, remember that we’re just a call away, ready to assist you whenever you need us. Here’s to a safe and successful school year!
